Background
Kath Libbert Jewellery Gallery opened at Salt’s Mill in 1996 and specialises in showcasing a
diverse range of contemporary jewellery by renowned designers and emerging talents. A constantly
changing selection of contemporary jewellery and accessories is shown throughout the year,
complemented by major exhibitions, often featuring top European designers as well as the cream of
British talent.

The gallery is in Salts Mill, a magnificent Victorian textile mill built by Sir Titus Salt in
the centre of Saltaire, the 'model village' he built to house his mill workers. Saltaire, which is
surrounded by stunning scenery, has been a World Heritage Site since 2001. Salts Mill was restored
some 20 years ago to show the worlds largest collection of works by David Hockney - born in nearby
Bradford. Along with Kath Libbert Jewellery Gallery, the Mill is also home to Salts Diner and a
number of other designer shops and galleries.

The Job
Kath Libbert Jewellery Gallery is looking for an enthusiastic gallery assistant to work up to 3
days a week including weekend work. There will also be occasional other times by arrangement in
particular preview events that occur about 4 times a year.
Ideally it would be great to have a jeweller as the work involves helping customers with a
lot of special commissions and so a working knowledge of jewellery is extremely helpful. However a
keen interest to learn, a good sense of design and an arts background would also be ok. Ideally the
person should have some experience of selling and most importantly enjoy it! as this is central to
the role.
Other duties include: all the paperwork involved with making sales and ordering items,
documenting and pricing up all new stock and displaying it, cleaning all stock, cabinets and the
gallery generally, helping to organize regular new exhibitions, attending trade fairs to help
source new jewellers, and other duties where necessary that go to make for the smooth running of
the gallery.
The hours are 10am – 6pm at the weekends and 10 – 5.30 during the week with 4.8 weeks holiday
per year pro rata. Saltaire has a railway station, which is a 17-minute connection from Leeds.
