Creative & Cultural Skills has teamed up with leading figures in the music industry and the BBC to launch an innovative new series of podcasts. Designed to provide an insight into careers in the industry, they're aimed at young people interested in joining this highly dynamic and fast-moving sector.
The podcasts include interviews with Aubrey Nunn (Faithless), Lohan Presencer (Ministry of Sound MD), Robin Millar (producer), Bob Angus (Metropolis Music MD), Colin Lester (Wildlife Entertainment), Paul Fletcher (EMI marketing), Sarah Levine (Universal Publishing), Edith Bowman (Radio 1) and Andy Saunders (Velocity Communications).
They share their experiences of making it in music with sixth formers from Queens Park Community School in London. Fresh, lively and informative, the podcasts provide a valuable careers resource that's easy to download and listen to.
The project has been facilitated by 21CC, the BBC's digital learning centre in London and is part of an ongoing national initiative to provide young people with industry- endorsed information and advice on careers, courses and what it takes to work in the creative industries.
Al Tickell, Industry Skills Director for Music at Creative & Cultural Skills says: "This is a great medium for letting people who've been there and done it to share their experiences directly with anyone who's got access to the web. Podcasting has helped to break plenty of new bands recently – so why not also use it to show the way to the whole range of careers in the industry?"
The podcasts, which will be available on the Creative & Cultural Skills website (podcast.ccskills.org.uk) will also be linked to i-Tunes, Learn Direct, and on various music industry websites and portals.
