"I am two years off the official retirement age and I'm broke. I have no pension, no savings and I don't own my house. When I've earned money I have put it back into my work, buying materials or paying for my workspace. I live hand-to-mouth and face living this way for the rest of my life." (Visual Artist from Newcastle, interviewed November 2006)
Fact: 70% of artists are at risk of not saving adequately for the future.
Fact: about 90% of people working in the arts are unaware of the tax benefits of pensions and other kinds of savings.
With financial support from Arts Council England a new website, www.pensionsforartists.org.uk, launched today providing vital information to help artists overcome this critical situation.
Information is available about the current crisis, and aims to empower artists by offering them basic information that will help them plan adequately for the third age of their lives.
