Higher Rhythm Ltd, a local not for profit company who deliver music recording, creative training
and media services for people from across the borough have added another major award to their
collection this week.
The Social Enterprise Yorkshire and Humber Awards is a major regional event which recognises
the best of not for profit / social enterprises across the Yorkshire and Humberside area of the UK.
Higher Rhythm were finalists in the 'most innovative social enterprise' and 'best social
enterprise' categories this year, bringing prestigious recognition of their achievements back to
Doncaster as a celebration of the quality of services available in our area.
This isn't the first time Higher Rhythm have brought home major national awards to
Doncaster. Last year they were national winners in the BECTA (British Educational communications
and technology agency) BETT awards for their outstanding contribution to adult learning, and since
2001, they have scooped around 10 other major awards for their work in engaging clients from a wide
range of cultures and communities to work together in creative projects.
The awards this year came on the back of the launch of higher rhythm's own community radio
station, SINE FM, providing access to underrepresented media for people from across the borough,
also supported by a wide range of accredited training and volunteering opportunities. This station,
the first of its kind in central Doncaster has recently attracted massive funding to develop
services over the next 3 years. Big Lottery Fund have just provided £ 237,000 through their
Reaching Communities programme, whilst Coalfields Regeneration Trust have provided £ 9500 and a
further £ 4000 has been sourced through the Doncaster Community Empowerment network grant scheme.
Steve Mundin, senior manager at Higher Rhythm said
"we are always proud to be nominated for awards, but even more so to bring major awards home to
Doncaster. There's a lot of positive things happening in the town and the not for profit sector is
full of passion and innovation. The SEYH award celebrates this and so we are pleased to remind
people that Doncaster has as much to contribute as any other town or city across the region. The
funding received through the various bodies has effectively contributed to creating and developing
an exciting new facility for the town, giving people from this area access to the same
opportunities as those available in some of biggest Cities across the country. We are therefore
delighted that we are delivering this exciting media project for Doncaster"
