When Huddersfield's newest live venue - 'The Peacock Lounge' opens it's doors this month it is
with a certain clientelle in mind. If your experience of live gigs has been spoiled by surly
service, warm beer in plastic glasses and toilets you wouldn't care to visit twice then the Peacock
Lounge will be the perfect antidote!
Billed as 'a cabaret bar providing the very best in live entertainment' the new venture is
the vision of Russ Kirby and Caroline Blackburn, whio have already made a name for themselves with
Sleepers Bar just two doors down in the Railway Arches on Viaduct St.
With a veritable smorgasbord of entertaimnment lined up the local lover of all things live
will be spoilt for choice, but the inaugral 'Huddersfield Laughter Lounge' , on Sat 28th June
should be top of the list for those who are up for a laugh.
And who are the comedians on the bill?
Genial white-haired Irishman Caimh (pronounced 'Queeve') McDonnell has quickly established
himself as one of the circuit's most amiable and friendly acts. Caimh is a regular at most major UK
venues, and his gentle yet incisive humour makes any audience feel involved whilst playing with
their expectations - sucking them in with his chatty, playful stage presence before metaphorically
slapping them in the face with an unexpected punchline.
"a standout act" - Daily Telegraph
"blessed with natural charm" - BBC
Steve Royle is both comedian and juggler making him ideal for the Laughter Lounge's cabaret
style show. Steve has supported Peter Kay, Dave Spikey and Steve Coogan, and was the first ever
audience warm-up for the Royal Variety Show. He regularly performs comedy in the UK and is a
founder member of the critically acclaimed 'Slaughterhouse Live' comedy sketch troupe. TV
appearances include 'Phoenix Nights' and 'Max and Paddy's Road To Nowhere'.
Compere for the evening is Oldhamer Rob Riley - a regular MC at numerous comedy clubs around
the North, Rob has a breezy chatty style and prides himself on his ability to come off script and
pull the laughter out of fresh air.
Despite a top class line up of comics more used to the big city centre comedy clubs the
admission price is a mere tenner - or you can gain a substantial discount by booking in advance.
