This challenging and dynamic programme provides students with a basis for exploring key elements
of twenty-first century urban and regional change, including creativity, globalisation and
innovation.
Drawing on our internationally recognised strengths in urban and regional research, the
School of Geography at the University of Southampton offers a one year taught MA in Creative
Cities. Organised around intensive small group seminars, the MA offers a cutting-edge engagement
with key debates in urban and regional research.
The programme provides:
- an examination of the new cultural economy of cities
- a focus on urban creativity and the creative city
- a critical engagement with strategies for urban competitiveness
- an exploration of the relationships between globalisation, transnationalism and urban dynamics
- an introduction to researching contemporary urbanism
The MA in Creative Cities is designed for those who intend to pursue a future career in urban
and regional development, private sector property and retail development, or those who wish to
undertake further research in urban economic and cultural geography.
