Faceless is offering young artists the opportunity to work alongside experienced music leaders
on Global Echoes, a new out-of-school music project for 10 – 13 year olds designed for them to
explore their own place in global culture through new musical ideas
Young people from across Wakefield will meet weekly for workshop sessions with professional
artists to explore South African music and create new compositions of their own.
This trainee scheme will run twice, from October to December 2008, and January to April 2009.
The successful applicants will be a key member of the Global Echoes artistic team, working closely
with experienced music leaders to create and explore diverse music with young people. The scheme
will enable the Trainees to develop workshop skills and confidence, with the opportunity to lead
sections of each workshop as the project progresses. The Trainee will be mentored by the project’s
lead music leader and supported by Faceless Company’s Project Staff.
There is also the opportunity for trainees (under 25) to complete an Arts Award whilst taking
part in the Global Echoes project.
This scheme is designed for early career composers, musicians or music students with some
experience of working with young people.
Applicants will need to commit to attending six weekly workshops and one full day session. It
is also anticipated that wherever possible the trainee will come to steering group meetings and
attend some artistic planning sessions.
We can offer a bursary of up to £300 per trainee to cover attendance at sessions, travel and
expenses. Workshops will take place across the Wakefield District.
